Sukuti is a type of dried meat originated from Himalayan region of Nepal. It is made by cutting meat into thin strips and drying it. It is usually served as a snack or side dish. With the few ingredients required and simple instructions, its possible to have a delicious snacks in no time. Give a try to unique dish from Himalayan region.


Sukuti is traditionally prepared by first cutting the meat into thin strips. Marinate the thin strips with turmeric powder and salt and hang on the roof above a chulo(wooden fire smoke) to remove moisture and to give smokey flavor.Alternatively meat can be sun dried.


How to cook Sukuti




First of all deep a Sukuti in a lukewarm water for 30 minutes and then cut into small pieces. Heat oil in a cooking pan over medium heat and add sliced onion and cook until it becomes golden brown. Now add sliced green chili, ginger garlic paste (alternatively you can use sliced ginger garlic), tomato and salt, stir for 5 minutes. Its turn to add sukuti pieces, fry sukuti pieces until brown. Season with cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric, red chili powder and garam masala. Stir for 2-3 minutes and add cup of water and cover the pan, and simmer until the meat is tender. Uncover the pan and your sukuti is ready to serve before serving toss the finely chopped fresh coriander leaves and serve with rice, roti or other accompaniments.

- 300 grams Dried meat (Sukuti)
- 1 tbsp Cooking oil
- 1 medium sized Onion
- 1 medium sized Tomato
- 2 pieces Green Chili
- .5 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Garam masala
- 1 tsp Ginger paste
- 1 tsp Garlic paste
- As per taste Chili powder
- As per taste Salt
- For garnishing Coriander leaves
Instructions

- Now add the small pieces of dried meat and fry until golden.
- Season with cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric, chili powder and garam masala.
- Add a cup of water and simmer until the meat is tender.
- Garnish with fresh herbs such as fresh coriander leaves and spring onion.
- Serve with rice, roti or other accompaniments. Here i will prefer with beaten rice (cheura).
