How to cook Aloo matar








Aloo matar is a simple and delicious dish made with potatoes, green peas and spices. Start by heating oil in a pan over medium high heat. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle for a few seconds. Then add add finely chopped onion and fry until it becomes golden brown color. Now add green chili, ginger garlic paste and saute until fragrant. Next add the diced potatoes and cook for a few minutes before adding peas and spices. Here you can use boiled potato, if you use boiled potatoes then add green peas and boiled potatoes together and stir. Season with turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and garam masala. After seasoning with spices stir for 2-3 minutes. Its turn to add diced tomatoes followed by salt. Cover the pan and cook for 5 minutes. Now uncover the pan and add 2 cup of water and cover the pan and cook for 10 minutes in a low medium flame. Quantity of water can be decreased or increased according to the desire thickness of gravy. Now uncover the pan and here your Aloo matar is ready to serve. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.

Ingredients
- 200 grams potatoes
- 150 grams peas
- 1 tbsp Cooking oil
- 2 medium sized onion
- 2 medium sized tomato
- 2 pieces of green chili
- 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
- .5 tsp cumin seeds
- .5 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- .5 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- As per taste red chili powder
- As per taste salt
- For garnishing chopped fresh coriander leaves
Instructions
- Once the cumin seeds begins to splutters add chopped onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add diced potatoes and stir fry for about 5 minutes until lightly brown
- Add ginger garlic paste and cook for a few minutes.
- Add green peas and spices like turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, garam masala and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add tomato puree and salt. Cook until water from tomato evaporated.
- Add 2 cup of water and cover the pan. Simmer for 7-8 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
- Uncover the pan and toss the chopped fresh coriander leaves and serve with rice or naan.
