What is Palak Paneer?

Palak Paneer is an indian dish consisting of Paneer in a thick paste made from pureed spinach called Palak in hindi. Palak Paneer is known to be originated from north Indian Punjab regions. In this recipe you can use roasted Paneer (Cheese) or you can prefer without roasting. If you are searching for how to cook Palak Paneer then i will teach you in a easiest way. I have tried many different ways but today i am going to share simple way to cook Palak Paneer.

Ingredients required to prepare Palak Paneer

Lets start with listing the ingredients required to prepare Palak Paneer

  1. Spinach – 1 kg
  2. Paneer (Cheese) – 250 gms
  3. Cooking oil – 2 tablespoons
  4. Cumin powder – 2 teaspoon
  5. Coriander powder – 2 teaspoon
  6. Ginger garlic paste – 2 table spoon
  7. Finely chopped green chili – as per taste
  8. Chili powder – as per taste
  9. Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  10. Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon
  11. Finely chopped onion –  1 medium sized
  12. Finely chopped tomato – 1 medium sized.

Steps (methods)

  1. At first, rinse the Spinach in clean water. Heat a water in a vessel in such a quantity that can dissolve all Spinach. When water is near to boil add the Spinach for 2 minutes (don’t overcook Spinach). Take a cold water in another vessel. After 2 minutes remove the Spinach leaves immediately from a boiling water and transfer to another vessel containing cold water.
  2. Now transfer the Spinach from cold water to mixture or blenders. While transferring the Spinach leaves do not squeeze water from it because we need it to make a paste. Now make the paste of Spinach leaves.
  3. Now its turn to cut the Paneer (Cheese)  in diced shape. Here you ca use roasted Paneer in oil too. But for better taste use Paneer pieces without roasted.
  4. To roast Paneer (Cheese) heat an oil on a frying pan and add a Paneer pieces and roast it until the paneer is golden brown color. When a Paneer is roasted then take a Paneer out of the pan and put it into a bowl and keep it aside.
  5. In the same oil or you can use new oil add finely chopped onion and green chilly and roast it until it becomes golden brown color. When onion becomes brown color add garlic paste and stir for 1-2 minutes and add finely chopped tomatoes followed by salt. After adding tomatoes immediately salt which helps to melt tomatoes.`
  6. When tomatoes are cooked turn the heat in a very low flame, flame should be low as much as possible. After lowering the flame add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, chili powder and garam masala powder. Stir and mix them well after mixing them add Palak(Spinach) paste before you had prepared and add Paneer(Cheese) pieces too. Again mix all ingredients along with Palak paste and Paneer cubes. Cover the cooking pan with lid and cook it for 2-3 minutes.
  7. After 2-3 minutes your Palak Paneer is ready to serve.
