What is Aloo Tama?

Aloo Tama is Nepali dish. Alu means Potato and Tama means Bamboo Shoot. This recipe is very famous in Nepal. Are you looking how to cook Aloo Tama? I have tried many different ways to cook Alu Tama but today i am going to share very simple and easiest way to cook Aloo Tama.

Ingredients require to cook Alu Tama

Lets start with listing the ingredients for making Alu Tama.

  1. Sour Bamboo shoot – 100 grams
  2. Boiled potato – 300 grams
  3. Onion – 1 medium sized
  4. Ginger garlic paste – 2 teaspoon
  5. Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
  6. Cumin powder – 1 teaspoon
  7. Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
  8. Chili powder – as per taste
  9. Oil – 2 tablespoon
  10. Green chili – as per taste
  11. Salt – as per taste
  12. Kasuri methi leaves – 1 teaspoon
  13. Tomato – 1 medium sized (If Bamboo shoot is not sour use tomato)

Steps to cook Alu Tama

  1. First of all heat an oil in a cooking pan and fry the Bamboo shoot. After this remove all Bamboo shoot from cooking pan and keep aside.
  2. If you have left oil in a cooking pan then add oil as much as required. After heating oil add finely chopped onion and green chilly. When onion becomes brown in color ginger-garlic paste and tomato after adding tomato immediately add salt.
  3. Add boiled tomato and stir for 1-2 minutes. Now its turn to add other ingredients like turmeric powder, coriander powder,cumin powder and chili powder. After adding all ingredients stir well and cover the cooking pan with lid for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Uncover the cooking pan and stir in between if needed.
  5.  Crush Kasuri methi leaves and add it.
  6. Now at last add cup of water and cover the cooking pan and cook it for 5 minutes in a low medium flame.

Now your Alu Tama is ready to serve. Enjoy with your family and friends.
